Dawn Patrol - 11/30/2025

The conditions on the dawn patrol were not bad, but they weren't the west wrap barrels that everyone had been whispering about.

The tide has been low in the mornings lately - 0.7' with a slow rise to 1.3'

Light northerly winds - but there was still a little bump in the surface.

I pulled a two staged dawn patrol this morning.  I had brought the Hayden Shapes Hypto Krypto 6'0" this morning anticipating the west wrap to have some size.

And I even installed the NVS Taylor Knox Wolverine 2+1 fin set.

Looking at the waves and the set timing, I thought I might as well give this fin setup a run.

I paddled out and caught three waves where I was able to get a couple of turns in.

This setup has some good potential (I just need waves with energy).

After surfing, I paddled in and got No.41 setup with the AFS Enduro 900/HA40/UHM 80cm mast to get in a Foil Drive session.

Kalani, Roland, Dennis and Stu also made it out on Foil Drive.  Rick, Noel, Makana, Dean, Derrick, Charles and Brent were out on SUP foils or prone.

Early on with the tide lower, there were some waves coming in from the south.  But as the session went on, there were some lines pushing in from the west.

I got in tons of carving turns - I cannot complain.

18 rides - with multiple double dips.

Good double session this morning!

Dawn Patrol - 11/29/2025

I skipped going out yesterday - I figured it was going to be pretty small (I heard it was).

And today I wanted to mix it up - surfing!

The conditions had improved - slightly bigger surf.

Knowing there wouldn't be a ton of energy in the waves, I brought out the Viking.

11' of pure wave catching power...

I actually caught several waves - from the same spot I would catch waves using the Foil Drive.

The Viking is something special!

Thanksgiving Foil Drive Dawn Patrol - 11/27/2025

It was even smaller today...

And there were way more people out.

Same gear as the previous few days

I stayed out for the long haul despite the really small conditions.

And it was a full house also with the mechanized foilers - Dennis, Grant, Roland, and the orange helmet efoiler

I also saw Greg and his daughter Eva out!  Nice to see them!

The pattern actually looked more like Tuesday's session (the super awesome one) even though the waves today were much smaller - did I say that already???

24 rides according to the GPS - but several of these didn't lead to much.

I'm still thankful that this time of year I can still get out in the ocean and not have to drive far to do so.  And that I am healthy enough to still be doing this.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Foil Drive Dawn Patrol - 11/26/2025

Today's dawn patrol session -

The waves were not nearly as fun today as they were yesterday.

Same equipment as yesterday -

20 rides - I did get some doubles, but after yesterday, it was a little anticlimactic.

21 rides!

And the forecast is calling tomorrow to be the day the swell hits (they said today was the day yesterday).

Foil Drive Dawn Patrol - 11/25/2025

This was yesterday's dawn patrol -

It was so glassy, the waves were perfect and it wasn't crowded

I didn't want to mess with the trench prep so I set up No.40

AFS Enduro 900/HA40/UHM 80cm mast

I was getting 4x repeats like it was nothing

The waves were lined up making it easy!!!

19 rides - it really couldn't have been better

Awesomeness!!!!

Parawing Session -11/23/2025

Despite the weak wind forecast for the south shore, there was wind forecasted for Kailua.

High tides took out a few of the ironwood trees -

Just enough wind to get up on big stuff

AFS Enduro 1300/HA43 and the Flysurfer POW 5.0

It actually was a fun session.  There was a mix of wings, kitesurfers and kitefoilers out.  And one other parawinger - but he was on a Maliko V1 4.0 - not enough wind for that PW.

Lots on mowing the lawn, but every now and then a set would come through that was rideable at Jump City.  I got several long, really fun rides.  The POW does drift well so riding was one handed with the PW largely just following.

But that same lack of desire to change direction in lighter winds also makes this a crap shoot jibe PW.  Probably more user error than poor design.

This chart is from Waimanalo - it seemed to be more consistent over there.

There were periods of time where I'd wait for a gust to get back up after botching a low wind jibe.

But for the most part I was up and riding.  There was an OC-1 canoe race going on - so I would stay either upwind or downwind of the pack as they passed by.

I'm glad I got a powered parawing session in!!!

Evening Surf Session - 11/22/2025

I figured the waves would still be around this afternoon - and that this swell would start to back off.

I didn't think the waves would be good enough for the newer boards I recently got - but the Sweet Potato can surf anything...

And I wanted to get the feeling of these Tappy Twins + trailer down some more.

I caught four really good waves - where I got in multiple turns and actually had a long ride.  You just really have to be patient and be in the right place at the right time.

This combo of board and fins are really good.  The Surfline energy calculated number was 20kJ (for future reference).

Fun sunset session!

Foil Drive Dawn Patrol - 11/22/2025

The waves were still coming in this morning - but a little bumpy.  I think this is from the low front that was pushing up from the south this past week.

Whatever made these waves - MAHALO NUI LOA!!!

Same equipment shifted to No.41

And I let Stu hold on to No.33 so he can try it out and buy it if it works for him.

This was a pretty solid session!

Lots of ripping!!!!

And towards the end as I tended to stay closer to shore, I got in a triple dip and several doubles.

The Enduro 900/HA40 is pure magic for me!!!

17 rides - and most were really long!

Roland, Stu and Dennis were all out on Foil Drive.  Dean, Andrew, Regan, Noel and Brent were all out on SUP foil boards.  I saw a few prone guys, but I didn't recognize them.

Despite the bumps, this was a super fun session!!!

Foil Drive Downwinder - 11/21/2025

And I got in a second session this afternoon.  Norm, Stu and I did the downwind run between WP and PV.

This was the start -

Same gear as earlier

And this was the finish.

I packed the BRM Ka'a 4.8 just in case the wind was strong enough - might as well since it is pretty compact (so I said at the beginning).

The waves were still decent sized - overhead on the big ones.

I had some really long rides.

I tried deploying the PW but it wouldn't open (not wind on it).

Ride count doesn't really work for downwinders.

Of note, I did get some double dips.

And the waves on the outside were pretty big -

Fun run!!!
