Wing Foiling Session - 12/16/2023

The wind forecasts are more "off" than correct with this system moving through.  I took a chance that morning at Kailua would be a better call than WPB.

On the drive over, there were signs of wind blowing.  But when I drove up, it looked absolutely still.  I hung around and talked with a few of the others than made the trip over.  During the talking, the wind did pick up a bit.

I setup No.32 with the Eagle 1090.  And I pumped up the SW2 5.2 (fun - Donnel was also there - he was the one I bought the 5.2 from - not sure if he noticed)

Seems like good mileage - but check the duration...

And the direction the wind was coming in from was off - LOTS of north in the wind (surprise - surprise... not).  Despite the north, my track makes it seem like it was from the east...

I did ventilate the mast a few times, which means I was pinching hard (so does that mean I was going that much further upwind than everybody else???  Not sure how to evaluate this)

The wind was so up and down - I actually avoided tacks to make sure I minimized the chance of dropping off foil.  I did throw one tack (and it was in front of the peanut gallery, at the end of my session).

That point above the loop closest to shore is my single tack today.

Looks like I went out at the worst possible time.  Sure I had lots of lulls, but looking at the speed chart, I actually got some fast runs in.  And the waves I caught were mostly chop free - so there was some benefit to the lighter wind time frame I rode in.

Correlating the wind chart and my speed graph, I start to think I'm matching wind speed... and taking this a step further with the indicated wind direction and my position track, I was pinching really high.  The Eagle 1090... is it really that good???
