Foil Drive Session - 9/9/2026

I finally got a session in - Hurricane Lowell closed the beaches (I really didn't want to go out in that anyways), and I did need some rest days.  But today was a lot cleaner than the past several days.

There was even a pretty high tide -

The Silk 850/Usurf 135 bolted on again.

I did ground the foil (only slightly) on the way out from the beach.  It is already filled and sanded as I write this.

On the outside, the waves were a little on the soft side.

Duke was out on his SUP foil.  Roland and Ben were out on Foil Drives.

I would catch swell on the outside and ride it to just before it was standup tall and set up for a closeout.  This is the sharp/abrupt ends to the lines.

19 rides in an hour and a quarter - not too shabby.

The trades are supposed to slow return - that's good as I just ordered a BRM L1 6.5m parawing.... should fill the low end of my quiver!!!

Foil Drive Dawn Patrol - 9/6/2026

Hurricane Lowell is starting to make it's turn to the north.  I figured it would be a good day to get a Foil Drive session in (before the surf gets unruly).

Dawn patrol saw a pretty low tide (0.3'), super light wind and head high swell on the sets.

No.43 with the AFS UHM 80cm mast, Silk 850/Usurf 135

I did want to start experimenting with the motor pod located further down the mast - this is the result with the next slightly longer motor cable.

Getting out past the breakers sucked a little - 

And there was a little warble in the water.

Dennis and Noel were out on Foil Drive.  Rick and Makana were out prone.

I did get several good rides - but then that warble turned into me taking off and losing it.  Four times straight.

I turned the board over to see what was wrong - the rear stabilizer was really loose.  Time to go in.

With the rear stabilizer issue, I only got eleven rides - 

I may try to get an evening session in seeing as how this one was cut short.

Evening Foil Drive Session - 7/2/2026

Had debated parawinging, but decided to take a nap.  Woke up then assessed the wind - it was up and down and side offshore.  Figured I should use the Foil Drive.   

I was also thinking the waves would be bigger today than yesterday - so I brought the Silk 850/USurf 135

Norm was already out when I got to the parking lot.  Roland was just about to launch.  And Kalani had finished a 12 mile parawing session.

This was a quick session.

The waves were pretty fun - chest high.  They weren't as punchy as yesterday.

Got 12 rides in 38 minutes

The wind is forecasted to blow, but lately the reality is it isn't nearly as strong as what is predicted.  Gonna need to keep the Foil Drive batteries charged and the parawings close hold.

Foil Drive Dawn Patrol - 5/9/2026

Beautiful conditions this morning!  Not totally glassy, but the wind had enough North in it to keep the surface clean and groomed.

The tide was low, but the swell was really good!

Well overhead on the sets!!!

Prayot was using the Cab Prestige - so I bolted on the foil that I have used as the standard to measure all other front foils by while Foil Drive-ing - the AFS Enduro 900

I kept No.40 in the rotation to get a comparison to yesterday.

But I did swap out the blue props for the black props.

Long paddle out this morning to get to deeper water.

Less discombobulation on the inside (compared to yesterday)

The swell on the outside was behaving perfectly!

I caught one monster wave - taking off late and immediately got lined up on the pit!!!  Well overhead, throwing lip and I got to ride just ahead of the chaos.  Stu bore witness to the spectacle!!!!

Lots of big carves using the whole face.

With the black props I was not taking off too early (ahead of the wave picking me up).  So that tells me I should use the blue props on smaller days, and the black ones when the energy is there.

I only had a short window this morning - I was going to grab the Cab Prestige back from Prayot (in preps for the wind that should arrive tomorrow - and testing that foil for parawinging).  And I needed to get home to run some errands.

Eleven rides - most were really long... I really love being able to ride this spot consistently!!!!

The Can Prestige is shaping up to be a great Jack of All Trades, where the Enduro and Silk are specialists.
