And Searing Because -

Not all parts of the ahi strap are good for poke.  The portions with more connective tissue don't cube up or slice as well, so those parts are better seared up!

More yummy!!!

More Dinner - Ahi Poke in Giant Shrimp Chips

La had seen this at a potluck event a couple of weeks back.  She wanted to make it at home -

Yummy!!!

More Ahi for Dinner

We still had the cravings from the last batch while we were on Kauai, so I made another batch.

I'm drooling on myself right now....

Last Day - Ahi Poke and Sashimi for Brunch

Our duplex cabin neighbor gave us some ahi straps - time to make poke and sashimi. But we had to make a grocery run first because we didn't have sesame seed oil, good soy sauce, wasabi and a few other things (like a good knife). Ishihara's in Waimea had the sesame seed oil - and a really popular poke counter -

While La and I were out, we had a date chai (they call them "Dirty Chai's" - first time(s) I heard them called that).

 More chickens -

Back at the cabin - I had to use a 'serrated knife' to clean and prepare the ahi - OH THE HUMANITY!!!!

I made the most of it (but for sure I'm bringing my own filet knife next time), and everyone made quick work of my work!!! Yummy!!!

Repeat Lunch

I had bought an extra block of ahi so we had sashimi for a second time. I showed Marlon how to form the rice patties and how to cut the ahi. They came out pretty good!!! I'd say the kids thought so too!

I've been reading some books...

And paying attention to the sushi chefs when we've hit the sushi bars. Here's my latest attempt.

Tamashiro's

First stop on the window shopping run (rainy Saturday...) - Tamashiro's Seafood Market Abalone (sushi sized - and still alive) Lots of limu Ahi - and not just any ahi - several different grades and cuts And if you sell limu and ahi, it's only natural that you sell poke If you're hungry - stop into this place and get some ono grinds!!!
