We went on the dawn patrol again yesterday. It is still down right hot and humid, but you can sense fall conditions are starting to come around. The sun is moving southward and first light is coming just a little later every morning. I mention all this because the water was a little less warm jumping in. I took the Starboard Element SUP out and Marlon took the longboard. No wind so the faces were really glassy. The swell seemed about the same as Saturday, but bigger on the sets.
The GoPro had the field of view on narrow so these pictures suck - but filler they are no matter how bad they suck. Lesson learned - verify your settings are good to go before paddling out.

This Guy -
Jason Glover was the first person that showed me how to mix polyester resin, fill a surfboard ding, and how to fair it in with a Random Orbital Sander. Almost 20 years later, getting together is just like we hadn't seen each other since yesterday!
Time can and will go by, but for some friends that doesn't really matter! Looking forward to the next time Jase!!!

SUP Surfing the Latest South Swell
Marlon and I did a dawn patrol yesterday. It was pretty windy and choppy - I brought out the ULI Lopez (but while I was out there I was thinking I should have brought out the Greedy Beaver).
I caught some good ones, but I also tripped up way more than I normally do. It's harder to make the drop when you are getting blown back up the face, and the chop is bucking you off the board.
Still a good time - Marlon was way over on the Oneula side of the breaks so I didn't get to checkout his rides.
I ended up pulling a muscle near my left shoulder blade. I'm sidelined for a few days...

SUP Surfed Mokes and Flat Island
Saturday was a small surf day. Got a few at the reef approaching Big Mokes - tried getting one in between the islands (but the swell was too small) - and I finished off by snagging several at Flat Island.
The tide was super low and several coral heads were sticking out of the water. Definitely an incentive for wisely choosing your waves.
The GoPro was acting up so I didn't get any photos of wave riding.
Fun session filled with microwaves (though I wish some swell would hit soon)!

SUP Specific Hover
I recently became more edumacated on the 2018 Naish Hover foilboards. There are different versions - a windsurfing specific model, one for SUP surfing and finally a crossover (to do both windsurfing and kitesurfing). The windsurfing specific model does have flatter overall rocker (and the one I saw in person was full carbon). Here is the SUP surfing model.
If I got one, it would be the crossover model to give the best of all possibilities.

Major's Bay Shore Break
We are staying in a cabin on Kauai with some friends. I brought the fishing poles and the ULI GL Pro, so the next several posts will be on our Kauai trip. First post - SUP surfing the shore break at Major's Bay! I caught a few good waves - here's the first

The swell wasn't big enough to break outside, so these were essentially beach break. On top of coral heads. In shallow water. But if you pulled out before it became critical, it was a fun ride! Marlon paddling out -

Wave number two -

The ULI is definitely the board for these types of breaks - no dings no matter how big the wipeout is!!! Wave three -

Awesome beach time!!!!

New South Swell - Late May 2017
There's a good sized swell on the South Shore right now. I was out with Burr and Scott this morning and we picked off a few good ones!!! The waves were well overhead on the sets and the wind was very light - perfect!!!

I love this spot when the conditions are like this - makes me love my home even more!!!

Sunday Morning Surf at White Plains Beach
The family hit the beach yesterday to wet our gills (it's been a while). Waist high, not to windy and lots of space for everyone to catch their stoke.

Marlon was out with the board Charlie gave him, and Amy was out also with her new GoPro 5 (nice kit).

Marlon is getting good at paddling a lower volume board - I bet soon I'll be breaking out the planer again to carve out some ripping shortboards!
