Caught a Bunch of Rocks

No kidding -

I ended up pulling up three like this.

Here's a close up of the fly I had tied on (to the end of a whipping rig - not a fly line).

I tied this clouser to mimic these fish - oama

I need to go fishing for these guys specifically next time

Oama Clouser Minnow

I tied this up to entice fish that typically eat oama (young of the year Yellow Stripe Goatfish). Unfortunately I haven't enticed any fish.

Bonefish #4 - Pretagged

I went fly fishing after work yesterday. I had the Epic 888, Allen Kraken XLA 4, and a ROI Bonefish (long belly) 8wt line setup. I ended up hooking up with Bonefish #4 (o'io). It took a clouser minnow tied to resemble the baby goatfish swimming around (o'ama). I had the bite guard on and it still took the fly. That was probably due to the early evening low sunlight. Whatever it was, I'll take it! I had my tagging kit, but this fish already had a tag on it too - 14068. I scraped all the algae off so hopefully it'll have an easier time swimming. Funny how when you are trying to catch one fish, you totally catch another. I was fishing for barracuda... I did go flyfishing again this morning. I saw several large bones, but didn't draw interest from them - I bet it was the bite guard...

Skunk Repellant

The dependable bluegill and the power of a copper and black clouser!!! No skunk here today!!! Casting the Kabuto was super fun today! I want to line it with a RIO Gold WF5F line to see how it performs with a slightly heavier line. I've still got to try the other 5wt lines I have (Orvis Powertaper, Orvis Depth Charge, SA GPX), but I am anticipation a great pairing between the Kabuto 7653 and the RIO Gold (we'll see - I also want to use the Gold for the Barclay Glass 5wt). Thank goodness for Bluegill!

Secret Fish Catching Weapons

We're going paddling/surfing/fishing this weekend!!! I've got a score to settle with some freshwater piscine adversaries and these Gamakatsu size 10 SL45 hooks covered in blue yarn are going to be "Killer Blueberries". The orange yarn size 14 eggs are stripped down sand crabs - advertising what I think the small fish would want - "just the eggs please - no shells". We'll see if this works as I'm not sure the baby pompano are running around the lower Chesapeake yet. And the fall back for the common bottom feeder - a small orange and black clouser minnow. I am going to bring spinning gear, lures and bait as well as the fly gear (Daiwa Kiyose 43MF, Orvis Helios 8 wt and the Nissin Fine Mode). Weather is looking good too - can't wait!!!

The Usual Suspects

I'm volunteering down at Fletcher's Cove tomorrow for an event to introduce fishing to school aged kids. Buses will be shuttling kids from Maryland and DC, and the volunteers are supposed to help them with baiting hooks, teaching ecology, removing the hooks, showing how to cast, and all the other fun stuff about hanging out around a body of water and learning about what lives in it. I plan on getting there early and seeing if I can land some shad... hopefully tomorrow the good karma generator pays off. Anyways - I tied up these short clouser minnows and a heavily weighted pink bugger for the shad, and a couple of olive buggers for Marlon to fish with in the afternoon.
