Dawn Patrol - 10/8/2023

Noe has a flute performance today so I knew I didn't have time to Foil Drive.  And the time was low so I didn't want to prone foil.  Along those lines, I have actually been having lots of fun getting back into surfing with really short boards - so I'm not looking at this as a compromise - it is what I've been looking forward to doing.

If you keep doing the same thing over and over again, your learning eventually slows down.  I feel like that is where I am with foiling - so moving to super short boards is definitely a way to freshen things up.

I took the H2 Sweet Potato out again and kept the Mackie keels on.  I caught a handful of waves in the short window I had - and they were so much fun.  Using the fins to derive more speed out of wave, and then converting that speed into torque as I crank a hard turn - this simple act is so addictive.

When I first got to the beach, the waves were stacked up and it was really consistent.  After an hour, the waves started to back off - but I had already caught a handful of super fun waves and I called it a session.

Now I can go about my day (because my stoke meter is pegged to full)!

Evening Session - 10/4/2023

Another low tide session.  Waves were coming in better, but they were smaller.

I used the Sweet Potato again - I got many waves and several were slashed apart by me.

The Sweet Potato definitely is a lemonade making machine!

Roland was out on the Progression 140 -

And busting airs!!!

I absolutely love this board - it does things that defy logic and physics.  And it is saving my foils from horrible bottom scars (that I would be getting if I felt desperate enough to foil during low tides like today).

Thanks to Marlon for taking water shots today!!!

Evening Session - 10/3/2023

I did some work in the garage when I got home (that's the next post) - but after that and after Marlon woke up from a nap, we headed to get some surf in.

Marlon got to try out his new board bag - and he got plenty of waves on his longboard.

Super light, offshore winds, low tide and small waves were the conditions.

I brought the Sweet Potato with the Mackie Fish Keels - I LOVE THIS COMBO!!!

I got plenty of waves - and they just got better as the session went on.

My last wave was bottom turn, carving top turn 4X over - incredible!!!

It's hard to take out fins that work really well - but I do want to try out the Hess Noriega keels.

Super fun session!!!

Evening Session - 9/1/2023

I've been winging a lot lately - almost enough to burn me out on it.  So I figured I should mix things up so I can keep winging fresh.

Today the wind was up and down - so it was a perfect time to break out the Sweet Potato with the Mackie Sidecut Fish Keels.

Roland was out and winging.

Marlon came with and was catching a bunch of waves on his longboard.

I caught a few really long waves - but with the high tide the waves kept standing up, then disappearing, then reappearing.  The ones that I caught I was able to ride, but I was not able to crank a bunch of turns.  Take what you can get!

This is such a fun combo!

These fins have some much drive!  Yet they flow and when the wave presents a section, cranking speed into torque is easy (and so addicting).

With the wind forecasted to die back early in the week, I'm glad I'm getting my paddling arms back before the next swell hits.  Yes, I could have went winging today, but I felt I got the most out of the conditions present.

Dawn Patrol - 8/21/2023

I took Marlon to his surf instructor job this morning.  He had been saying that whenever he goes to work, the waves are better than where we normally go and that there is hardly any people surfing.  That had intrigued me and since I was taking him there, I brought a board.

It was no joke - the waves looked really good.

I wanted to try these new fins out - Mackie Sidecut Fish Keels

I first went out on the NVS Ono Convertibles.  These are versatile and feel good.

After three waves I went in and switched out the Onos to the Mackies.  These fins are next level!!!  Great drive and projection - and they still release on top turns!

So good!!!  I think these are going to stay in the boxes for quite some time ;)

I met Marlon's boss Anthony and a guy out in the surf, Derek.  Both foil and we had some cool discussions on equipment.
