Big Fish
http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/blog/34735/angler+battles+great+white+shark+from+southern+california+pier/
This is a repost from GrindTV.com - Pete Thomas is the author
So my take - don't kill it if you're not going to eat it - not to mention the filter you have to apply if there is a state law dictating what you have to do with what's on the end of your line (like Snakeheads in Virginia and Great White Sharks in California). I bet the adrenaline factor was through the roof on this catch.

Great White Attack

I pulled this off one of the other blogs - credit to the LA Times. Be careful out there all you SOCAL surfers - especially the folks in the Ventura - Santa Barbara corridor.
"The victim of the shark attack off Surf Beach on Friday morning has been identified as Lucas Ransom, a 19-year-old college student from Romoland, Calif., authorities said.
Ransom was boogie boarding about 150 yards offshore at about 8:50 a.m. when the attack occurred, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Grossini said Friday afternoon at a news conference on the beach. A friend who was surfing near him witnessed what happened, as did two people on the beach, Grossini said.
"He saw his friend go under for a brief moment and knew something was wrong,'' Grossini said of Ransom's surfer friend. The friend and the witnesses helped Ransom get to shore, he said. Ransom suffered a massive wound to his left leg, the sheriff's department said in a statement. He was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from Vandenberg AFB fire department.
Ransom lost a portion of his leg in the attack, Grossini said. Authorities are patrolling the coastline trying to find the missing body part, he said. They recovered the boogie board, which had a segment bitten off.
Witnesses said they saw the shark and estimated it to be 14 to 18 feet long.
[Updated at 2:22 p.m.: Authorities previously provided the incorrect last name for Ransom as Ranson. He was a junior in chemical engineering at UC Santa Barbara, authorities said.]

Whitey Jumping

I am not going to say anything about this. It speaks for itself.

Whitey
If you look closely, you will see a creature that demands complete and utter respect. Anything that stops 23 Hooyah Deep Sea divers and a crew of 5 hardened sailors on a 120 foot vessel in their tracks, make a tight U-turn and stare with awe is one of several politically incorrect human-object scenarios or something big that can eat you.
The estimates ranged from 12' (most probable) to over 25' (estimates from the known embellishers) - this fish was scared of no one...
I've got a race that hits a stretch of open ocean on Saturday... hmmmmmmm.....
Respect to the fish -
