Rocker Comparisons

With the TJ Everyday, we have three longboards. Having waxed La's board (Patagonia Noseglider) and the new TJ, I had an opportunity to compare the boards side by side, along with the TJ Pro. When I lived here in the late nineties, I weighed 157#. I could surf anything from sub 6' potato chips all the way up to a friends 10' longboard. These days I have to watch what I eat, but I am working on getting back down to my fighting weight. All that said, when I originally sold some shortboards to buy the TJ Pro, I was working with the mentality that a 9'0" board would work for me the same way they did back in the day. That board is a great board, but it really needs juicier waves with more energy to work well. This TJ Everyday is the opposite - it'll pick up almost any wave without having to expend a ton of energy paddling. Perfect for White Plains and other longboard spots. The Everyday definitely has a longer flat section in the middle of the board - that added with the extra volume makes for easier paddling than the Pro model. The other reason I couldn't take my eyes off this board is the sidebiter Futures boxes - I had looked at this board before, but they were single fins (they can be ordered with different tails and fin configurations, but one had the right stuff in the back ;) I'll still take out the Pro to places like Cliffs and Daystar on a good day, but for the jogs to White Plains, the Everyday will be the ticket!

In Between and After

I initially paddled out with Marlon on the Firewire. I was able to catch a few while Marlon was waiting for his wave. I also caught up with Noe who was using a tiny boogie board to ride the shorebreak more efficiently. Marlon caught another and got to standup on the board!!! I wasn't in position to take photos, but I did see him get up! At some point I did get on the SUP and caught a bunch of little ones ;) I'm glad the sun is making it's way back to the Northern hemisphere - that's means more time to surf after work!!!

Third Time Out

I brought the new board out for the third time on Saturday morning. I like it more each time! It is definitely a board for making turns and not a noserider (but I knew that making the purchase). With some good waves, I can see carving bottom and top turns. With care on the takeoffs, my back isn't screaming bloody murder right now. Hopefully as I get my paddling muscles back into shape, my lower back gets stronger and the pain goes away completely. I've been stretching the heck out of my back - enhanced flexibility is another goal I have. Small bumps make the best traction surface. Put the time in to get a good wax job on your board and your surfing won't suffer for it. It's been a while since I've prone surfed, but it is good to mix things up to keep everything fresh! Now I just have to figure out how to use the gopro on this (I am not sticking on a mount to the tail or the nose).

New Surfboard

Thank you kids and La for my birthday present!!!! Firewire Timbertek TJPro I surfed it on Saturday - man I am out of shape.... looking forward to catching the dawn patrol with this board (so I can whittle away my belly fat). I'm going to have to figure out a way to use the gopro while using this board - I don't like the typical deck mounted pictures (can't see anything but you - no background at all).
