Fishing Report 7/5/2014 - Lake Chautauqua

Spin fishing with La's Uncle's equipment. Caught a Yellow Perch and a Pumpkinseed on nightcrawlers. Marlon saw a gar hanging out - and with a landing net, we were able to catch it. Lake Chautauqua trifecta! Catching fish in New York - check!

Transition to Fall

The temperatures are definitely cooler. The fish aren't rising for flies or bait anymore. Getting the fish to take is more a game of patience and good looking - putting the hook in front of them is the only way to get any response. Makes you think about how slow it will be when winter sets in (or think about a warm winter - this is supposed to be an El Nino year, or we'll just call it global climate change). Well with persistence, we are still catching - we had a few of these smaller bass, several bluegill and Marlon caught his first yellow perch.

Biggest Catch of the Day Part 3 - Yellow Perch

In the midst of catching a bunch of Bluegill, I hooked into this guy - my first Yellow Perch! It took the orange scud fly I was casting and it fought well. Fight per pound, I'd still give the nod to a big bluegill, but all these fish I've been catching on the Daiwa Soyokaze have bent the rod like a screaming 10# bonefish on an 8 wt - I can't complain.
