Wing Foiling Session - 12/25/2021

And to top Christmas off, La and the kids came with me to Hickam while I was getting in an afternoon winging session.  Light winds (steady state had <15mph, with gusts touching 20) made for challenging conditions.

I pumped up the OR A 5.0 and bolted on a foil I haven't used in a long time - the Go Foil GL210.  I did schlog still, but this foil gets up quick so when the gusts hit you can get going.

Surprisingly it also has a decent top end.  The speed chart below showed a max speed of 18.3mph.

You can tell the wind was pretty much from the NE.  Transitions were super easy on this big foil.

The conditions were definitely representative of the low end of this equipment.  If I want to go out consistently in less than 15mph, I think the OR A 6.0 will be needed (hmmm).

Again - surprising speed from the GL210.

Fun day at the beach!!!  Merry Christmas to every one!

Mid Day Session - Christmas Day

Marlon and I surfed mid day yesterday - we stayed at home to open presents in the morning.  It was worth the wait - offshore winds, overhead waves, and a sparsely crowded break - we couldn't have asked for more!!!

The CF1200/300 combo was working perfectly again - so much fun taking big drops on this foil and carving back and forth on 500 foot long rides....

Marlon was picking off wave after wave and he said the same thing - "Wow - best Christmas present ever!!!!"

Words can't describe how much fun this session was!

Surf and Turf for Christmas

I made some ahi poke and smoked ribs for Christmas. The poke came out great! I miscalculated and left the ribs in for an hour and a half too long - some parts got too dry. There were still some great, juicy sections - but I need to work out a better formula for the smoking time (or drop the temp in the Big Green Egg down to 230 degrees F). I hope you got to spend time with those you love and had a meal or two together - as we have all upped the rat race every year, getting to slowdown for a few days and remember why we work so hard is important. Merry Christmas!

Christmas Day 2015

There are funny stories linked to the gifts we got the kids - but you'll have to stop by and have a beer to get them ;) The kids love their outdoor exploration equipment! Marlon did a great job waxing up the board. We took it out for a spin and he was fearless!!! The conditions were tough - super strong trades and a weak swell. I had to jump on the SUP to catch anything.
