Fat B-Ass

Man these waders make my butt look ginormous!!! Oh - and I caught a nice sized largemouth bass. I had been eating so it was kinda fat.

Transforming

Changing out to go fly fishing is way easier than changing out of work clothes to go surfing. I used to do the later while still in the driver's seat of my car. Or with a towel. It was really a pain in the butt if it was cold outside and I needed to put a wetsuit on. Towels are the best way to make the transformation without drawing a ticket for public exposure. Pulling on waders is way easier. Off with your shoes. On with the waders. On with the boots. It actually takes longer to set up the rod, string the line and tie on a fly. Or you can wait until spring and say "screw the waders - I'll get wet". But that is definitely a warmer weather decision point. Did I say I hate winter...

Wading 4 Mile Run

So here I am wading in at 4 Mile Run. I saw one fish - some kind of bottom dwelling goby - and didn't get one tug. There were a few other guys out casting lines, but I didn't see anyone getting hits. The waders kept me dry. The boots were really nice. And the rod hanging down from my chest pack is a Nissin Fine 3.9 to 4.4 m Zoom Seiryu (ultralight weight tenkara) - nice touches on the rod itself, but this one will take a little getting used to in order to cast the line correctly. I did read an article today about guys heading out real early to this spot and nailing it - maybe I should get up early... Or maybe I should wait for Spring to get here.

Good Sales Going on

I have been on the fence for quite sometime about getting a pair of waders. Being able to go out (here in the local area) and cast on the weekend early mornings has been on my mind as something to take the place of surfing dawn patrols while we are stationed in DC (away from the ocean). I've looked at the Simms, Patagonia and Redington - but for the low price of $153 (inclusive of tax) I couldn't pass these up. Regularly (before the new sonic sealed version came out) these went for $295. There's more deals out there, but I have to be selective when pulling the trigger (to make sure La and the kids get some love too). Any how - go take a look around, the stores are hungry and you can get into some deals right now (at least 20% off on most everything if you keep looking at the sites you normally would haunt).
