Evening Session - 10/30/2023

Pulled an evening session after work yesterday.  The waves had size, but it was all jumbled and even a bit hard to catch.  You'd sit in the lineup thinking you were in the right spot, but the wave you were lined up for would get fat and not even carry.

Marlon caught a nice one from the outside.

I had a few where I got some turns in but not much distance.

Still a fun session.

I could have used more paddling power (maybe the Seaside and Beyond).  I'm skipping Tuesday since we will be going to our annual "Don't Support Diabetes" campaign.

Evening Session - 10/16/2023

I got in a late afternoon session.

The surf was the biggest it has been in quite some time - head high sets!!!  I don't even know what the tide was - all I saw was sets rolling through that didn't close out right away.

I caught a few long rides - some fun turns, but the crowd usually got in the way to truly unleash...

I'm not sure where this swell came from - but it is truly appreciated.

Dawn Patrol - 10/14/2023

Hit the dawn patrol this morning.  Special guests Lys and Matthew Maceda!!!!

No wind, dropping tide and a ridable swell in the water.

Since Lys and Matthew were on longboards, I opted not to setup the Foil Drive, and instead brought the Sweet Potato.  I was also curious about the Mayhem Evil Twins on this board.

Initially I had it setup with the trailer in place.  The rides were fun, but I was finding I wasn't able to push it hard through the turns.  Halfway through the session I paddled in, took off my vest and the trailer fin and headed back out.

Without the trailer. this setup was super fun!!!  The Evil Twins have a hair less "pop" than the Mackie Keels, but they can be overpushed through a topturn into a roundhouse.

Give and take -

I think this set of fins will reside on the Boogie Fish, and the other keels will rotate on the Sweet Potatoes.

I had three outstanding rights this morning - this recent run of shortboarding sessions has been awesome!

Dawn Patrol - 10/13/2023

The surfline forecast called for the best wave energy to be present at dawn.  I figured I'd go in a tad late so I could take advantage of the conditions (and I also told Marlon I'd take him to where his ride to Makapuu was - school project).

The waves had more of a SW bend to them - which kept the rights open!!!

There was zero wind and the tide was on the high side.  I only had under an hour to surf so I got to it.

I find myself wanting to keep surfing this board - the Boogie Fish!  And I also wanted to try it out with the Futures Mayhem Evil Twin Large fins I picked up yesterday.

I was able to get into some nice waves and these fins are continuing the streak of "the next set of fins are even better than the last!!!!"

This stint of riding short fishy surfboards has been reinvigorating.
