Evening Session - 9/8/2022

Today I returned Tim's board and also Eli's rear stabilizer - met both of them at WPB.  Since I was there, I got in an afternoon session.

I used the 4'8" prone foiling board with the short Project Cedrus mast and the ART999/400P on the crazy short fuselage - perfect setup for today's conditions!

Waves were waist to belly high on the sets.  The tide was super high.  And the wind was present, but light.

I caught several waves - and on almost all of them I'd go from one side of the beach to the other (Fenceline to the cabins, then on the next wave back to Fenceline).

My last wave was really long - lots of turns - so much fun!

Eli was out winging - big 7.0 - and he was ripping (as usual) in almost no wind.  RS1150 and the new 20" rear stabilizer.

The forecast predicts light winds through the weekend -

Wing Foiling Session - 9/1/2022

Hit WPB for a winging session today.  The thermals were light, but they were there - so I pumped up the RS 6.1.  I figured if I bolted on the 1210/178, I could also handle more wind if it filled in.  85cm mast (the 96cm is going to be a Hickam or a downwinder mast).

Roland and Eli were also setting up.

The waves were not really breaking, so this was more or less a mowing the lawn session.  The start of the session saw me trying to get out to the wind line, and there was more north in the wind, I ended up drifting down to in front of the cabins.  I went ahead and pinched to get back in front of Fenceline, then just rode the swell there.  The wind did level up in the gusts - and I was up on foil for most of the session (without touching down at all).

The 6.1 RS really saved this session.  I don't know how Roland does it - but he was out on his Ensis Score 4.0

I forgot my watch - but I brought the phone out and used Strava.  Not sure how to read this chart exactly - but it kinda looks like I was matching wind speed (which I never really do...).

After the session, Eli showed Roland and I what new front foils he got in Maui - RS 875 and RS 1025 - really high aspect foils!

Good fun today!

Evening Session - 4/21/2022

I didn't trust the wind this afternoon - there were lots of clouds hanging around and the normal signs (trees moving, flags flapping) were up and down.  I figured I'd reduce my frustration and prone foil again today.  Besides - I wanted to keep getting more experience on the Kujira 1440.

Even though I thought the wind was light, Eli proved otherwise.  5.0 Alien Wing to boot...

Roland and I were prone foiling - Marlon spent this session flying the drone.  At the onset, he had found a couple of hammerheads out towards Coves... we made sure to stay closer to Middles today.

I'm really liking this foil - lots of glide and if I go left (with the wind behind me), it pumps almost effortlessly.

In this picture, Roland is looping and Eli is blasting outside.

Each session with the 1440 gets better than the last!!!

Wing Foiling Session - 9/24/2021

This afternoon the signs indicated marginal winds.  But after yesterday's session (and the strong winds that materialized from the same marginal signs) I thought I should set up to wing.

HS1850 on the 95cm mast, chopped 300 rear stabilizer and the Ensis 6.0

Marlon came out to practice some more with the drone.  It was perfect flying conditions for him, but what started out as marginal quickly dropped to the impossible range

Eli can conjure up his own wind so he was cruising the whole time.  Roland and I are not nearly as good as Eli is, so we got stranded when the wind stopped.

You can see the large amount of "blue", or me drifting around in the image below.

It is hard to call this marginal wind...

And to boot, there was more north in this wind than there was east.  On the runs I did get, I kept trying to pinch upwind - but alas it was not to be.  I ended up having to swim a good deal in and at the last second was able to ride to the lone cottage.

Roland was closer in when the wind died - he paddled the gap and was in well before I was.

I really should have listened to my gut and prone foiled.  It would have been much less work.  Tomorrow on the dawn patrol - going to go prone surf foiling.
