Surf Report 10/9/2014

Small day - but the tide drained out far (due to the full moon). We were able to see a part of the beach that doesn't get dry all that often. That changed the breaking wave pattern a lot - but the waves were small anyways. Super fun day!!!

First Beach on Saturday

Back at it - hanging out, getting tan, trying to fish (no bites - water was too choppy), and surfing!!! As you can see, it was windy - but unfortunately I anticipated slightly lower wind speeds - the 16m2 kite I brought was too big. The choppiness of the surf gave Marlon and Noe a new perspective of surf quality. The last time we went out and the surf was like this, they had some apprehension to getting in - this time they just charged it, but weren't able to stand up as much. It's the hard times that make you better, but conversely any surf is better than no surf when you have to drive 3.5 hours to get wet.

Fun Busy Saturday, Part 3 - Ridiculous Fun

Truth be known, mat riding and boogie boarding can be SO MUCH FUN!!!! When you let go of your inhibitions of being seen on sponges and non-sleek conventional short boards, you can pretty much catch and ride any wave out there. As I remember my pure distain for sponges when I lived in Hawaii, I now wonder how many more waves I could have caught there and everywhere I've been since. Well, I haven't been that shortboard snob for a while now and my wave count is way up there. I love my surf mat AND .......

Waikiki Surf on a Mat

Late afternoon surf at Canoes and Queens. After seeing the surf break when I wait for the elevator, how could I not go? Lots of people at the break proper, including two tandem couples. I stayed on the inside and took the gems nobody else wanted. F-U-N!!!

Mat Surfing

And this is my Sunday afternoon.

I used the mat to surf at Lani's.

I got a ton of great waves and didn't fight one bit (like I would have to on a shortboard)!!!

This thing is AWESOME!!!

I used it at Leftovers Saturday morning, but I used less air in it on Sunday and it worked way better.

I love my inflatable surf equipment (toys) - surfmat, FAQ SUP, kites!!! Perfect traveling stoke generators!!!
