Hokulea is Home

While we were at Pearl Harbor for the regatta, the Hokulea arrived at Magic Island after a three year voyage around the planet (I didn't take this picture - I pulled it down from the internet).

While we were waiting for Noe to finish a flute practice, Marlon and I went to the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor to check out the Hokulea berthed across.

It was easier than going to Magic Island and trying to get closer with tens of thousands of people trying to do the same thing. And it is always fun to checkout the other boats in the harbor (like this one - big cat!)

Oracle (US Team) Wins the America's Cup!!!

These guys definitely earned the title - down 8-1 they won 8 races straight to keep the Cup!!! Good on Emirates New Zealand for their drive as well - especially since they could have taken the Cup a couple of races ago but the wind built up to the point where the race was called off (when they were in the lead). Great way to end the series - cliffhanger all the way to the very end!!!

Last Race in the America's Cup is Today at 4:15 pm EDT

This could be the biggest comeback ever... Make sure you check the weather out in San Francisco and if everything dials in, watch this race -

America's Cup Time Again

Lots of buzz and prequalifying for the competitors. These AC45's look awesome!!! Makes me want to take a pause with flyfishing and break out our boat. Photo credits on the pics.

2 Liter Catamaran

This was the science project I brought back from the Outer Banks for Marlon. Finally got some time to build it last night.

It ran around in circles depending to a degree on the wind strength and mostly because of the asymmetry of the pontoons (same bottles, but not laid out exactly the same.

After several short runs (it kept blowing back to shore), I asked Marlon if he wanted to push it out one more time - he said yes. Thirty minutes later, after several "I'm hot" declarations, the catamaran finally came back in.

As I finish up a slew of other projects, I'll make some rudders for this boat.

Cat Line Up

Off the beach -

Hanalei offered what appeared to be an awesome launch for beach cats - as evidenced by the boats lining the waterfront above the high tide line.

One of the craft sitting on the beach was a double outrigger canoe with a sail rig - in my years living on Oahu, I never saw one of these. I think I prefer the standard version of the Sailing Canoe.

There was a Hobie Wave plying the waters among the anchored boats, but not much else going on the day I drove through.

This would be an awesome trip to undertake one day -
