La Spin Fishing

This weekend was a busy regatta weekend for us.  The El Toro State of Hawaii event was on Saturday (Noe got a second in the small sail division) and on Sunday the Bullship event was held.  On Saturday I had to help out to prepare for an upcoming STEM event I'm helping with and La stayed with the other sailing moms.  But on Sunday, I figured I could get some fishing in while waiting and La said she wanted to come along... that never happens...

But she had fun casting and looking at the schools of young fish hanging out by the pier, the big turtles that would come up for air, and the occasional aha charging our lures.  No bites, but a fun way to hang out and spend time together!

Family Fishing Outing

La asked to go fly fishing a couple of weekends ago - we were able to get out early enough yesterday!!!

This is the flats at 7:20 in the morning

La had taken lessons with Marlon a while back (when we lived in Virginia), but I gave her a refresher lesson

She spent the next hour casting away - she said it was relaxing!!!

Awesome morning!!!  I drifted off to let her get her casting down and I had a few shots at some bonefish - no hook ups but sometimes that's not what important...

Quotes from La

Marlon and Noe took their yellow belt tests today for Tae Kwon Do and after they 'kicked butt', we had sushi for lunch to celebrate. Then after that, we headed to Riverbend Regional Park to go hiking and fishing. We all caught some fish, but La seemed to have the most fun. Without recanting the whole afternoon, a better way to relay all the fun is to take excerpts from La. (1) BAM! I CAUGHT THE FIRST BASS (2) DON'T BE JEALOUS (3) JUST BECAUSE I CAUGHT MORE FISH THAN YOU DID DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE ANY LESS OF A PERSON (4) I LOVE FISHING WHEN I'M CATCHING FISH (5) I NEED A FISHING SHIRT (6) HOOOO! LOOK AT THIS - I CAUGHT ANOTHER FISH - THAT'S FOUR! HOW MANY HAVE YOU CAUGHT? WHOOOOOO! That's my La ;)

Fishing the Dropping Tide

The family decided we needed to fish some saltwater today. We had delusions of grandeur in catching croaker, puppy drums, spot and schoolie stripers and decided fishing around Annapolis would be our best bet. We ended up scoping out three park areas before we settled at Quiet Waters. We bumped into a family leaving as we unloaded the truck - they said they only caught a couple of blue crabs on their rods. Turns out we only did slightly better - La had a blue crab on early, but when she got it to the surface, it spooked and let go. After a little bit of time, she did bring a White Perch to hand. She caught it all by herself - despite Noe offering assistance at multiple points in the process. After that, La and Noe went up the steps and admired (caught by hand) the moths and butterflies that were in the overlook garden. Marlon went on to catch a blue crab, but when it saw us gearing up to bring it up and over, it decided it would be best to let go and find lunch at a different venue. I ended up catching NOTHING!!! That's fishing...
