Pelicans, Kites, Sand Crabs

Pictures of the pelicans squadrons. Pictures of the 3m Trainer Kite (pulls like a tractor - should be really fun in a wide open parking lot with a skateboard). And a picture of Marlon catching some last minute sand crabs. We love this beach! We left after this for Reston to get the house ready for turnover and make preparations for our extended summer vacation in the camper trailer.

"Just Like Riding a Bike"

The forecast for the weekend called for a good stiff wind out of the North - side shore at Southgate. No SUP surfing this weekend... BRING OUT THE KITES!!! La grabbed the 2m trainer and was at it like a pro despite the long passage of time between sessions. She said it had been nearly a year since we went out armed with windtools - I'll have to dig through the old posts to confirm, but it has been a while (brutal winter and long drives to the beach don't help). La was right back in action from the get go!!! Some things you don't forget no matter how long it has been - flying a two line kite is just like riding a bike ;)

Kiting Lessons...

Charlie's headed to Kaneohe. Living that close to Kailua's Kalama Beach Park, you have to learn how to kite. We had talked a little about the lessons - especially buying a trainer - and what the learning curve is like. He bought the trainer and we took it to Little Creek Beach to get the first lessons under the belt. Makes me want to break out my kites again... hmmmmmm - no job.... maybe I can land a job as a kiting instructor/fishing guide....

WHACK!!!

I took the head off this wave!!! It's been a while since I've had this kite up (Diego???) let alone kited in waves... Fortunately, this move for me is just like riding a bike - somethings are just meant to be ;)

12m - Too Small

If you go back a few weeks, you'll see the last time we came down to Virginia Beach, I BELIEVED the weather forecast and only brought the 16m kite. Needless to say the wind was cranking and I didn't get to go kitesurfing. This trip I brought both. The wind was holding above 15 mph, so I went ahead and pumped up the 12m. My luck - the wind quickly started to die back as soon as I was ready to launch. I went out anyways and...
