Volume Determination Tank

Kalani asked if I could estimate the volume of the board I made for him.  I told him bring the board over and I can setup the dunk tank.

Archimedes Principle in full use here - submerge the board, measure the rise in water column height, then run the math.

His board measured out at 86 liters.

The 4'7" Wing Foiling Board (pictured above) came in at 70 liters.

The 4'11" Wing Foiling Board came in at 82 liters.

The 4'8" Prone Foiling Board came in at 50 liters.

These are not out of line with what you would have thought the volumes would be.

Garage Works - No.25

After surfing this morning, I worked on some garage projects.  I got the reinforcement block for the mast track sanded down to match the height of the surrounding blank.  Then I lined the hole with carbon and a layer of innegra.

I used about 5.6 ounces of epoxy to line the hole and saturate the laminates.  I used a roller to spread the epoxy evenly.  Then I spread some epoxy on the reinforcement block to make sure there would be a bond, and then stuck it in.

There was a little pull on the side pieces of carbon, but nothing catastrophic.  I used saran wrap to keep the laminates and the epoxy flat.

I also finally epoxied the divynicell strips together (this needed to be done a long time ago).  I'll figure out what size these need to be assembled to in order to use them as footstrap reinforcement blocks and augment mast track reinforcement blocks (under the ends of the Futures boxes).

Garage Works - 5/18/2022

It was raining today - when the winds blow from the south, we become the windward side of the island - and that usually means rain.  I opted to get this board over the finish line (so I can get it back to the owner and open up space in the garage).  I had taped off the board yesterday, but didn't have the yellow paint (I had mistakenly thought I had a can - but that was back in 2014 I think).  I picked up the paint today - and proceeded to get adequate coverage on the repair.

And here it is with the tape removed.  I just need to wetsand the painted area to blend it in with the rest of the board and I can get this board moving.

And I went ahead and did the math on where the inserts will go on this board - I've got a spreadsheet that correlates all the boards I've built with straps and I can input the length to get the ratioed locations.  Yes it is a tiny bit asymmetric to benefit my regular foot stance.

I'll rout out the reinforcement block slot before the weekend and try to get it installed.  I'll need to build up some more footstrap insert blocks before I can rout out those locations.

With all the jumping that Roland keeps doing, I think I am ready to give it a go again (but I'll need this board).
