Evening Session - 1/4/2023

We hit the beach this afternoon after an eye doctor appointment (for La and myself) and a Costco run.  We actually hit the beach so we could take our annual family picture (just a few days late, but thats ok).  Surfing was just an added benefit.

I had heard the surf was coming down, so I brought the Viking.

I caught three really long ones from the outside.  This board is 11 feet of pure magic!  I walk all over the board to trim, turn, and glide.

The surf was definitely down, but still ridable.  I think this is probably the level that it will be at for the next few days.  With no wind in the foreseeable forecast and low tide predominating the afternoons, it looks like this will be a surf dominated first few months of the year.

New Year's Tradition - First Light Over the Water Pictures

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 2015 was a tough year for our family - me journeying ahead as the advanced party to Hawaii, La and the kids back in Washington State waiting for the green light and preparing the household goods - but we're all back together for the start of 2016! That said, this was our first opportunity to execute our annual tradition of taking a family picture at the beach with the sun coming up over a water horizon! We originally planned to go to Alan Davis Beach just south of the Makapuu Lighthouse - but so was everyone else. The cars were parked back nearly a mile along Kalanianaole Hwy from the trailhead. We decided to go to Plan B - Sandy Beach Park. We nabbed a parking spot and waited for the sunrise. I'm glad we altered plan when we did - the beach park got filled fast! This was the picture we came for, but we left with a bunch more. Welcome 2016!!!
