Evening Session - 3/13/2023

Light winds, low tide and waist high swell yesterday evening!

Marlon came with and we both longboarded.

I brought the Viking and was catching the rollers from way outside (I love that board!!!).  I caught plenty of fun waves.  Riding this board from the tail is so dynamic!!!  I try and just park in the pocket and glide (all the way in, every time - this is probably one of the better workout boards I have because I end up paddlign so much).

But Roland stole the show!!!  He's changed up his rear stabilizer shimming (going from 2.5 degrees to just about 0) and now he is literally flying!

I just don't like foiling on lower tides...

Evening Session - 3/10/2022

Got a late evening after work session in yesterday.  Marlon was with La and Noe - I waited until they got back home before heading out to WPB.  The tide was too low to foil, so I brought out the TJ Everyday.  Marlon brought his longboard and away we went.

I caught a handful of really fun waves - they had enough energy to keep the rides long and fun.

Garage Works - EOM September

Lots of activity in the garage on this last weekend of September.  I redid the template on the 4'8" wing board blank - wider hips now and I went ahead and committed by cutting the template out.  Next step for this is skinning bottom and top, trimming down the nose volume, then dialing in the shape.

But before I do anymore work on that board, I need to work on fixing Ken's wing board.  What I had thought was an air bubble under the deck pad, was actually a full on delamination.  And there are two of them.  I prepared one for filling already - will need to lift the deck pad by the handle and do a big fill there as well.

And to top that off, Tim dinged the nose of his Amundson custom today and already dropped that off for fixing.

Knowing I am going to experiment on the Go Foils, I wanted to get some bottom mount rear stabilizers made.  I'm re-templating the one Dennis had previously asked for (but never picked up) to be another 15".  I got the holes drilled in to the two on the right - and I took off a bunch of bulk on the middle on.  Going to perform the bulk removal/taper down to the tips operation on a few of the top mount stabilizers as well.

I helped Marlon dial in his new longboard template.

Here is the re-foiled rear stabilizer (not quite finished yet - I took this picture mid-process).  It took about an hour to get the bulk off and get the surface sanded down to 220.

And here's Marlon cutting out his new longboard from the raw blank.  He opted to use the manual saw for the bulk removal.

And then used the surform to get the edges smoothed out and even.

I might have to reconfigure the garage to handle the volume of boards going in and out....

Patagonia Honolulu - Rell Sunn

We stopped by the new Patagonia Honolulu today.  Turns out the building is pretty much dedicated to Rell Sunn.  From one of her surfboards and books from her library, to some of her furniture, the Patagonia folks did a wonderful job creating a reflection of Rell.

This picture is huge - takes up a large portion of the makai wall.

They also had some items from the Hokulea

Make sure to stop by if you are in the area!!!

Dawn Patrol - 6/14/2020

Marlon and I woke up early to get some surf before the wind picked up.  The swell was chest high, the tide was low and the wind was minimal - but the water surface was choppy.

I brought the Viking out because I didn't want to contend with the crowd.  It did not disappoint.  The funny thing was the outside waves would pitch and throw, and after a good drop and short wall, the wave would fizzle out - in my mind I kept thinking "why can't I pump through this lull?" - duh - not on a foil.

We stayed until the wind picked up - probably an hour and a half on the water.  Fun session!
