Garage Works - 3/14/2024

Yesterday I went ahead and got No.33 fully converted over to support Foil Drive Max operations.

That involved trimming up the front-most deck pad and installing a small front foot pad where the rear strap retaining insert was.

I also cleaned up the residual adhesive from the velcro that held the FDA+ battery box in place and sprayed clear coat over the vacated space.

I think it came out great!

And I also got to try out the Waiahole Poi Factory plate lunch (for dinner).  I think my laulau is actually better...

19th Anniversary!!!

So La wanted to eat pancakes for our Anniversary - pancakes from Highway Inn.  We got started a little later than we should have (breakfast stops at 11am) so we ended up eating lunch stuff instead.

Instant Pot Kalua Pork

Broke da mouth!!!  This Instant Pot has utterly transformed my island food cooking - I can't even fathom going into a restaurant to order local food anymore because I can make it faster, less expensive and far tastier.

Lunch Break and Seeking Out the Assassin

La and the kiddoroosters were in town and free during lunchtime, so they picked me up and we went out to lunch!!! I took them to a spot I have been wanting to try out, but haven't had the time to get to - Ahi Assassins. Note the business hours - these guys go out on their off days and catch the fish they serve on the on days. Delicious food - well worth every penny Smart people work here and make wonderful food for savvy customers - and they get to go fishing as part of their job!!! Go check them out - near UH where Berentania St starts.

Long Lost Bento Friend

It's been a long while since I've had one of these bentos from K's Bento-ya in Waipahu. Some things never change (still only takes cash, still only comes in small or large, still costs the same). Some things weren't meant to change ;)

He'eia General Store

I finally made it to this place - the He'eia General Store at He'eia Pier. Yesterday, I brought another old friend - Mike Gabiga - over to try out the local food (he doesn't have a car, so it'd be a long bus ride to get here). The General Store has gotten somewhat of a cult following after getting some press from the mainland. It always has a crowd waiting and most days they sell out of whatever is on the menu (Mike ordered the Guava Chicken, but it had already sold out). I was lucky enough to get an order of Misoyaki Beef (so good!!!). And the mac salad was not guilt laden either - yet it was really good. The guy at the counter even picked up his fishing rod and made some casts for papio when the crowd back off - my kind of place!!!
