Wing Foiling Session - 3/9/2024

Did a dawn patrol wing session over at Kailua.  The wind was up, and there were waves.  I setup No.32, the SK8 950/C200, Evolution Wind Mast, and the SW2 4.7 - perfect setup for the conditions.

I also brought the GoPro and used the chest harness.  This perspective really didn't produce much - but I have been trying to figure out how to get this picture for a while -

Got in some mileage today

I got a bunch of tacks in towards shore.

But I did lose it in the middle of the coral field and I ended up hitting both the front foil and the rear stabilizer on reef.  Ugh... (I already filled and sanded the foils - good as almost new)

The wind was good - but there were a couple of holes (and one of them lead to the groundings while trying to get back up).

Pretty good speed on the SK8 950

Licking Wounds - NL160

And here's one of the aforementioned projects - addressing the reef hits on the NL160.

I sanded the hits (two - one on each side) down and had already sprayed primer/filler on to the damaged spots after taping them off.  And this morning I went ahead and wet sanded the excess primer/filler off.

Tomorrow I'll spray blue paint on, let it dry, sand to 1500, clean, spray gloss, sand then wax the wing.

Dawn Patrol - 11/1/2020

I pulled a solo dawn patrol this morning.  I actually checked it out and was going to pass because it was really small and really crowded.  I hung around the beach to checkout the sunrise.

The horizon was really clear this  morning you could easily see Molokai on the horizon.

There was a green flash as the sun poked over the horizon - what a treat!

I met up with a bunch of foilers at the pavilion and ended up discussing the virtues of Axis/Armstrong/Go Foil and board construction.  After that I figured I might as well go foiling.  Same setup as yesterday - wanted to confirm yesterday's performance.

Well - all was going well until a new foiler decided to drop in on me and wreak havoc - I had to bail because he was crossing me from behind - I ended up hitting my face and shoulder.  This is going to leave a scar...

I'm getting a little fatigued from all the new people that don't follow the normal rules of surfing - like not dropping in on someone that is already riding a wave.  I think I may take a break from White Plains for a bit (so I don't end up losing my cool).

Dawn Patrol - 4/26/2020

I woke up and figured I should get a session in before the wind picked up and the crowds thickened.  Marlon wanted to sleep in so I went solo.  The tide was a the small high at 0.5'.  There was a slight breeze on the water and the swell was down a tad from yesterday - still rideable, but I sat further inside to make sure I didn't lose any opportunities.  I caught a bunch and they were all long.  On most rides I was also able to carve some big rebounding turns (change direction 180).  And to add to the goodness of this session, I was able to pump back out three times (one of which was a botched 2 for 1).  The GL180 has made a big difference in my foiling.

Somewhere along the session I got a reef poke on my left foot.  I didn't think anything of it and kept on foiling.  I checked on the poke during a lull and it seemed as if some skin got sliced off.  It didn't seem to be bleeding so I stayed out.  I kept checking on it and at some point it looked like it was bleeding - I took the next wave in.  I cleaned it up when I got home - it didn't look too bad.  I hope this bill is paid up for a bit.
