Anointment of the Firewire Revo Max - 11/21/2024

After finishing the repairs on Harris's wingboard and getting a package to the post office, I took the Revo Max over to the beach.

There were waist high breaking waves so I decided to get the new board wet!!!

I don't know where the sand is going or why it is leaving... it's winter on the South Shore and the sand is supposed to be migrating to the beach...

I caught a couple of handful of waves - and I had several really good rides.  This board is definitely a keeper!!!!

Catches the waves it should easily.  Turns really nicely.  Grovels across flat sections well.  All in this board is really fun.  I'll have to do some back to back testing with the Sweet Potato to see which board is better in what conditions - but I can see these two boards being the backbone of my surfing.

The more I rode this board, the more it reminded me of the 6'4" thrusters I used to ride as my daily drivers back in the late 90's - so this board felt instantly familiar.

If this board can ride the shitty waves that were coming in today, it will pay back every penny and more that I paid for it.

Evening Session - 11/19/2023

Marlon and I were burning some time yesterday afternoon and I ended up with the chance to demo this board - the Firewire Great White Twin.  This one is a 5'11" at 34 liters.

After taking a nap to recover from this morning's session I placed the Endorfins Twins in and headed to WPB to check the evening surf and demo the board.  The surf had cleaned up significantly and the waves were chest to head high on the sets - perfect for the demo!

This board is sick!!!  It turns so good, and even these fins turned out to be perfect (I hated them on the Sweet Potato and the Cymatic).  Drives when you need and doesn't stick when you want to do a top turn.

I'm going to get the 6'0" 36 liter version so I can paddle in with more consistency (I missed a few that had my name on them).  I don't think the extra area will cork out the board for me.

I really don't need another board, but life is short and twin fins are so good - this is a niche I actually do need to fill (twin fin board that can handle bigger surf).

Evening Session - 10/11/2023

I was wasted (super tired, not drunk) after I got home from work so I took a nap.  I got up after an hour and felt compelled to go surf.  Supposedly there was an increase in the wave energy - gotta get it before the south swells go dormant.

And I wanted to get more waves in with the Boogie Fish.

I got several fun ones - but almost every other wave had military people dropping in - "I love this place because everybody shares waves" - wrong - you just keep dropping in.

I still had a good time getting to know this board better.

Dawn Patrol - 4/9/2022

Dawn patrolled this morning.  Decided to take the Firewire Sunday out thinking the swell would have built up and knowing the tide was on the really low side.  Marlon brought out his Seaside.

It took me a few waves to regain the feel of a shorter board on a juicer wave.  I did have a few really fun rides (but all way shorter than on foil).

I totally forgot I had this board setup as a twin.  Early on I would lean in and try to maneuver hard to the top of the wave - no joy - twins don't turn like thrusters.

Fun day (but for what ever reason, I am way more tired after surfing on a board, than I normally am foiling).

Dawn Patrol - 2/26/2022

There is a large WNW pushing through right now and WPB was getting some wrap.  Marlon and I checked it last night and there was energy in the water.  I opted for the 4'8" prone with the Kujira 1095 on the new 68cm PC mast.  Marlon brought his Seaside set up as a straight twin.

There was still energy in the water.  In fact the first wave I caught was a two for one and the next wave was a triple dip.  But then the conditions slightly changed and the rides took a turn for the worse.

It seemed to turn choppier and with the short mast and wider spanned HA front foil, for whatever reason I was breaching a lot - like almost every wave.  I already know the adjustments - either use the longer mast when I use the higher aspect ratio foils, or bolt on a lower aspect ratio foil when using the shorter mast in choppy or turbulent water conditions.

To throw another variable into the mix, I think part of the problem was keeping the nose up.  With the shorter mast, it seems as if the center of lift of the board-rider-foil system is altered, and in this specific case I needed to move the mast slightly forward.  Unfortunately I've been using regular bolts instead of the wing screws and I had to live with the placement.

I caught up with Marlon after and he said he had some really fun drops and some great turns.  Successfully dawn patrol if you ask me!

Some Late Posts - Hawking

The next few posts are going to be catch ups.

Marlon and I had a tiny bit of spare time Thursday after I picked him up from class.  We made a quick trip up to Wahiawa to check out the Town and Country Surfboard Factory.

I really took a fancy to the asymmetric boards and the retro twins that Glenn Pang shapes.

In fact, we saw the twins down in the shops also (and they looked just as svelte... ooooohhhhhhh so nice...

The twin (The Saint model) T&C at Pearlridge.  I feel the need to mow some foam coming on soon...
