Garage Works - 2/3/2024

This was yesterday's work in the garage.  I laminated a thick chunk of carbon fabric where my heels/knees will go, and the innegra mesh underneath 4.8 ounce carbon fiber nose to tail.

The carbon underlay is 8.9 ounce fabric - I always have concern over saturating this fabric...

Here is the result of nearly 23 ounces of epoxy pushed into the multiple laminate layers.

And the whole thing was still pretty darn light.

I'll sand the laps and make a determination of the fill coat (pigmented is the call right now).

Footstrap Inserts and Placement on Kalani's Wing Board

I took the day off to get Marlon over to his NROTC Indoc (yup - where did all the time go???) - but this also gives me an opportunity to crank out more garage projects.  I went ahead and cut out enough d-cell blocks for a few boards worth of footstrap inserts.

And I verified the placement of the footstraps

22" between the footstrap positions, rear footstrap over the track boxes.

Offsets from center were taken from Kalani's current board.  For reference, this is setup for goofy foot riding.

Between now and Sunday evening, I want to get the slots routed out, the blocks set in, the insert slots routed out, the inserts set in, the track reinforcement block routed out and the track slots cut out.  At that point I'll be ready to start glassing.

Honestly this one is taking longer than I would have liked - but two long stretches of strong wind and the projects take a back seat to wing foiling.

Seating the Reinforcement Blocks (for the Mast Track Finboxes)

I got these in place last night.  Not too much drama.

Straight epoxy with a layer of carbon on the bottom.  Epoxy mixed with milled fibers spread on the sides of the blocks - then inserted in the holes.

Epoxy mixed with cabosil to fill in the gaps across the top and in the sides of the blocks.

Next is routing out the slots for the boxes.

Furthering the 4'10"

Did some fine sanding.

Also routed out the area where my front foot will most likely land for the divynicell sheeting (I'm doing this because I can't stand pressure dings).  I'm going to finish off the vacuum press also.

Almost time to bag!!!
