Garage Works - 8/10/2023

And taking a break from foiling, I even got a lot of work done on garage projects - this is La's surfboard.  I'm smoothing out the old delam repair and a couple of small dings so it is water tight... she may actually go and use it soon....

Here it is sanded down -

A layer of 4 ounce glass and a coat of epoxy goes a long way to smoothing out the older repair.

These are the two forward rail dings - I should barely have to sand these - mainly blending them in with the rest of the board.

And I epoxied in the footstrap reinforcement blocks into No.32

This weekend I'll cut out the slots for the inserts, get those cleaned up and epoxied in place.  I want to also get the mast track boxes cutout and the boxes epoxied in on the bottom deck.  If I get there, I should also laminate the board.

I'll add the fill coat on La's board, and cut the finbox slot on Ken's board.

That's a lot of stuff to get done (in addition to renting a giant ladder to fix my gutters, pressure washing our teak lawn furniture, watering La's plants, yup.....).

Surfing on Martin Luther King Jr Weekend

Sunday morning I took Marlon surfing.  He's been using La's board lately and having a blast cruising around (and catching waves easily - ahh the benefits of a good longboard!!!).  The big swell on the North Shore finally wrapped around to Kualaka'i (White Plains Beach).

We did the same this morning (Monday).  But the swell was less consistent (although a couple of sets were actually head high).  On the way back in, someone took up the whole beach -

I've definitely gotten lazy in my middle ages - I definitely prefer surfing my home break to driving all over the island like I used to - but the funny thing is I like surfing my home break better than the other spots.  Now to get that foil up and running....

Surf Report 8/28/2014

The surf forecast websites indicated that this morning would be the biggest and cleanest the surf would be for at least a week. We got our share!!! This ULI Lopez 9-0 trifin is an awesome board - one of the great things about inflatables is I don't care how close I get to shore - beach break no longer means bad dings. And with the thruster setup, I can push some torque on the bottom turns. Now I just need to find some longer waves (probably the hardest thing to find in Florida). La felt confident enough to bring out her longboard. Here she is catching a few on her own (no help from me except a little encouragement and intel on wave selection) ;) Maybe we'll try again this afternoon on the low tide But if we don't - we did have a blast!!!
