Mokuleia on Labor Day

We spent the afternoon up at a friend of a friend's house at Mokuleia/Waialua.

Uhhhh - anybody see any oama around here???

La brought one of the hammocks we got (in anticipation of building a gazebo in the back yard) - it is awesome!!!  I took a solid nap in it after booting the kids out of it.

Fun time!

North Shore Chicken Hunting

We packed up the truck and went out to grab a couple of pieces of lumber - then made a trip out to Haleiwa to grab a Kua Aina Burger (drooling)!  To pass a few minutes in hope of letting any lunch hour lines die down, we checked out the Patagonia shop.  Without fail, there were chicken families in several stages of development.  My kids went into "hunt" mode..

Ever since our trip to Kauai, my kids love to catch recently hatched chicks, study them, and release them to continue hunting bugs.  I love to hear the hen scream bloody murder - I realize the hen may not think the same of the situation as I do, but this never gets old for me or the kids.  I'm sure it gets old for the birds.

No animals were physically harmed in the making of this blog post.  In fact, the chicks we picked up got belly rubs and hugs.

Top Laminates on Wings, Bottom Laminates on Mast and Fuselage

Last of the work from this weekend.  Got the kids involved to mix the epoxy and get the glass on the parts.

My garage is a total autoclave - the slow hardener actually cures super quick in the heat.  I'm going to have to get creative in assembling the base plate-mast-fuselage...

And here is the post glassing trim for the four pieces addressed (did not glass the base plate yet).

At this rate, I think this foil will be finished by the end of next weekend, or so.  I need to get the boxes prepared for the bottom of the surrogate board (old light wind kite board I made in Gulfport, MS).

Last Fishing for 2017

I took the kids out to the flats on Saturday December 30th.

I caught a Nunu (Coronet fish) and a Hinalea (Wrasse).

This year was tough fishing.  I hope 2018 has more hanapa'a for everyone!!!

Happy New Year!!!

Towing Duty and "El Toro" Clinics

The kiddoroosters have an El Toro Clinic this weekend and I got to tow again (I actually like towing things). The packing crew didn't tighten down the starboard - outboard hull. We made a little pitstop on the elevated H-3 freeway (I'll post a picture when I get it from La's phone). And the kids got to learn some of the finer points of sailing the "Bullship".

Hafa Adai Academy Marine Field trip

La and the kids took a field trip out to the Sandy Beach Tide Pools with other homeschooled students to study the limu species there.

Pinch Pottery for the Succulents

On Saturday, I went to my first hand building pottery class. This went a lot better for me than my first wheel throwing class. I built some more pieces with the kiddoroosters. Super easy, super fun and super practical (pots this size that are not the standard terracotta are expensive - I've seen them in one store for $11 to $20). To keep this blog focused on playing in and around the water, I'll be starting another blog soon on pottery, succulents and succulents in pottery. For now, here are our latest creations - BEHOLD!!!
