Afternoon Session With Two Special Guests - 26 December

I got home from work and sanded down the epoxy I added on to the 4'6" yesterday.  I still have a few small voids to fill, but after that I should be able to knock out the remaining sanding.  I should be able to get the board wet after this weekend.

After the sanding work, I told Marlon I'd take him surfing.  He actually went this morning - so with the evening session, he had a double-dip.

While we were loading up, La and Noe said they wanted to go as well. What a rare event!!!  Noe caught a few.

And La got a couple of good ones!

I brought the longboard as the tide was low (I hate it when I hit bottom).  So I was goofy foot training again.

With the offshore breeze (another rarity) - the smaller waves were easier to catch taking off goofy - so much fun (not quite as much as foiling - but it has certainly made surfing fresh again)!

Both Kids Went Surfing with Dad

I took the kids surfing yesterday evening - that is a rarity (because Noe is normally iffy - but I think she saw it as a way to get out of cleaning the house with La if she had stayed back).

Marlon checked the surf report and it said the waves would be waist high.  Must have been an old report because it was probably 3X that size when we got there.  I spent the first half surfing with Noe - she caught three, then when she went in I paddled out to Marlon and surfed with him.  We did not go to the outside but hung out in the middle break.

It was fun surfing the TJ Everyday, but it was definitely big enough that I could have gotten some action out of the Greedy Beaver - maybe next time.  In any case - I love surfing with my kiddoroosters!!!!

Mother's Day Surfing

La actually asked to go surfing on Mother's Day -

Have I said I love this truck???  Four boards, two paddles, chairs, snacks, extra clothes and more on board!

I got to surf the longboard and the Starboard Element (and I should have surfed the ULI Lopez and the Wavestorm to make it an ALL BOARD day - but I just farted around instead).

A couple of "jellyfish" body surfing.  These pictures are from La's phone - I'll post more from the GoPros shortly

UPDATE:  Here are the GoPro pictures

This was Marlon's first time SUPing in the waves - he said it was real easy to catch anything that came by.  I can see La and Marlon taking SUP surfing breaks a lot more now.

La and the Kids Hit the Beach

Without me :(

Actually - I think it's a good thing they are getting out there!

Surfing Hanalei

After a long drive across the south shore, then through the hippie town of Kapaa, and across the single lane bridge at Hanalei, we finally made it to the beach! The surf was perfect for having fun!!!

Noe and Marlon caught a bunch of fun waves!

Awesome waves (albeit on the small side - but again - too much fun!!!!)

Noe Asked to Go Surfing

Which rarely happens... she took out the Wavestorm (since Marlon has been using the board Charlie Bisgard gave him). She totally chills out when surfing - knee paddle here, lounge around there - then she takes her time popping up... I followed her on a couple of waves to get some pictures. I can't say no when my kids ask me to take them surfing!

A Little Afternoon Surfing

Noe and I had worked all morning on Saturday to glaze up over 35 pots. Hopefully those turn out well, but that's for another post on another blog (checkout The Succulent and Pottery Compulsion). We got back and I took Marlon surfing. Noe wanted to come also (because I told her if she earned 10 surfing points, she could get $5 added to her allowance - I have to bribe this one to go surfing, but it is working). Noe is fearless when she is with Marlon - We got there and the tide was swollen and the waves were muted out because of that. But we still had fun. Or maybe I still had fun - Marlon wanted to try out the shortboard we got him last Christmas - but the waves weren't cooperating and I could tell he was a bit frustrated. I had the aircraft carrier out so I was able to catch a couple of waves. Here's a shaka for you - It would have been better if there were more sizable waves, but the time spent together in the water was all I could ask for!

Noe Finally Surfing Again

The whole family went out Sunday morning to surf. Marlon was way outside waiting for the bigger waves to come in. He did come in a few times to show off his "Deadman" stance. La took the Starboard Element out and caught a bunch. I watched the kids that stayed in close so our friend Amy could catch some of her own waves. And Noe was able to go out and catch four stand up waves on the Catch Surf Odyssey!!!! I had to bribe her to go out and catch those waves, but it was worth it to hear her say she was having fun in the water here in Hawaii (earlier she told me she liked surfing better in Florida because it was easier).
