Evening Session - 9/28/2023

The wind is backing off, so I Marlon and I got in a late afternoon prone foiling session!

I setup my standard gear - No.21/PC 68-72cm mast/P170/Flex Rear Stab

Marlon took out the gear he has been learning on.

We adjusted the mast position forward a quarter inch - seems to have worked since he was up on foil multiple times.  He just needs more practice to get settled in on the foil (instead of the board).  Also those first generation GoFoils need a lot of front foot pressure - he was compensating by placing his hands on the rails... maybe we need to pull the mast back a hair.... more practice tomorrow!!!!

I caught several - but since I've been winging so much lately, my pumping back out game sucked.  I'm so used to just sheeting in to get back out....

Roland was commenting on the Lift 120 that Duke has been using - they lined them up to see the size difference.

The 120 has a shorter chord and is about a hlaf inch shorter on each wing tip than the 140

Not to mention the 140 has a way different profile across the span.

Evening Session - 7/3/2023

This is what the surf looked like when Roland and I got to the parking lot.  There were waves breaking in the waist high range and the wind was just shy of being wingable.  The tide was super high - so I let Roland check out the Progression 140.

I took out what I thought would make the most of smaller, waist high and less waves - Progression 170, my flex rear stabilizer, the 68(72)cm Project Cedrus mast and my higher volume 4'8".

Well - after 30 minutes of catching the waist high waves and getting my paddle-in prone bearings again, the waves doubled in size.  That mixed with the uber high tide backwash made for some really challenging conditions (which makes things more fun).

I was probably pushing the limits of takeoff with the P170 once the waves picked up - but that made for some epic drops!!!

It took Roland a few waves to get adjusted to the Progression 140 - but he liked it so much he is buying off me (like he said he would when I bought it off Craigslist for him).

Tomorrow is America's birthday - for all our faults, there is still no place like it - take some time to appreciate our freedom, our liberty, and our collective way of life - and strive to make us better, more compassionate, and the best foilers in the universe!!!

Evening Session - 6/13/2023

I took the Progression 140 out for a test run this afternoon.  When you put the 170 and the 140 up together, there isn't an obvious difference.

I caught a bunch of waves - and the 140 is faster than the 170 (duh), it has almost as much glide as the 170 (surprising), and it turns harder than the 170 (no surprise).  I really like this foil.  The waves and the wind driven turbulence made riding challenging.  I did not get a recycling program going today - not sure if that is a foil problem, an environmental conditions issue, or a Vic issue.  The waves had a bit of pitch to them today - made takeoffs a big gamble - either you made a glorious drop and bottom turn, or you got chewed up and spit out.

The waves got even finnickier as the session went on - my whole last hour was waiting, and then missing for waves with pitching lips.  Even though there were some down points, this was a great first session with the Progression 140.

Here is where the mast ended up.  I had moved it 3x while I was out - I'm pretty sure this is optimized, but more testing is needed.
