Done!!!

This past four days have been slammed at work requirements.  I actually needed to take a nap when I got home.  But I cut the nap short to be able to use the remaining daylight to finish up the prone foil boards.

I sanded both boards on a 40-80-120-220 schedule.  Then I put two coats of Rustoleum Matte Enamel to fill in the residual scratches.

These both came out nice.  There are some bubbles here and there, and the reinforcement block area leaves a lot to be desired, but all of that adds to the homemade character.  I'm glad to be finished and can't wait to get these wet!

Getting Back on the "Horse"

It's been a while since I have shaped anything.  Most things I've been working on recently have been repairs or modifications.  Well - that changed today.  I have been rearranging the garage to get the tools into an area that is more conducive for using.  With that completed, I broke out the new bench sander and shaped the front hydrofoil wings I templated out (unfortunately a while back now).

The Porter Cable sander was strong and removed wood easily.  It still took some time because of the large size of the wing, but I got the three wings ready for detail sanding.

Tomorrow I'll try and get the struts and fuselages rough sanded.

Next Step on the Hand Planes

After fishing on Saturday, I hung out at Charlie's and took the next step on carving out the hand planes. I sketched out the template on a piece of cardboard and carefully cut them out. The problem with using cardboard for templates is when you flip them, you don't always get a mirror image (since the pencil interacts with the cardboard edge differently). Next up is cutting out the blank from the spoils. Something for next weekend.

New Hand Plane

This was a Christmas present from Charlie Bisgard - I've seen him working on these hand planes and a bunch of standup paddles in his garage over the past year. I gave him a Mark V Diver being chased by a huge octopus print by Thor from Hawaii. I can't wait to try this out (but the water is going to have to get a lot warmer first...)Or maybe I can take a trip out to Hawaii...

Amphibious Assault

This should have been the first post of the weekend - the Surf Taco all dressed up for a full on assault on the beaches of lower Virginia! We had everything from the Beater board, the Fourth Gear Flyer (which the kids used), fishing gear (which I unfortunately didn't break out), and even La's sewing machine all packed up. I love this truck more every weekend!
