Fishing Trip - 1/3/2026

Saturday surf and wind were forecasted to be meh -

I got a text from Norm asking if I wanted to go fishing - twist my arm!!!

And I brought Marlon along.

The trip yielded two smaller mahi and this perfect eating sized striped marlin!!!

The first mahi was a double strike - but the second one came off the hook.

The second strike was a double again - two marlin!!!

The second one came off also - but that was a blessing in disguise (handling two is a handful - handling one is a handful).

The marlin ran twice.

Then the pole it was fighting cracked near the upper 1/4th.

Then after missing it with the gaff twice, the line broke and Norm just had it in his hand.

It took everyone in the boat but we landed the marlin!!!!

Epic day of fishing!!!!

Mahalo Norm for the day of fishing!!!

Fish for Dinner

Noe wanted fried pompano for her birthday - so I got her some fried pompano.  But while doing that, I saw some mahi fillets and grabbed a few.  A little salt, a little pepper, some butter to fry them in and BAM!!!

So yummy!!!

Fish for Dinner

I bought a few slabs of mahi (this is a catch up post - I actually bought and cooked the fish two weekends ago), and taught the kids how to make baked fish. Salt, pepper, crushed garlic and butter. Yummy with mashed potatos!!!!

Post Gyotaku Mahi

Dinner

Big Gyotaku

The big mahi was a hen (female) - I printed it (who knows when I'll catch another one this big), but I thought it was a bull when I was pulling it in. Should turn out pretty good -

Offshore Trifecta!!!

I caught a rather large Mahi, a decent sized Wahoo and a Yellowfin Tuna on my trolling rod today. Mark White Squid Head lures - fish catching mojo!!! As a boat, we landed 3 Mahi, 3 Yellowfin, 3 Wahoo and 2 Bonitos - it doesn't get much better than this -
