Parawing Session - 5/25/2026

Dawn patrolled Kailua Beach Park for parawinging!

Wind was up early (kinda always is over there) - but weird thing was no one was out - just the regulars talking story in the rigging area. 

This view never gets old...

With the winds as strong as they are - I wanted to see if the Cabrinha Prestige would deliver in these conditions.  Wind was over 20mph - so up went the BRM Maliko 4.0

This setup delivered in spades!!!!  SO GOOD!

You can totally see the upwind pinch, then the jibe onto the peaking waves, the LONG DW rides (so much fun!!!!), and finally the return leg to the starting point to recycle.

Jump City and the Beach Park are perfect for parawinging.  When you want to retract the parawing, the wind is at your back so there is zero resistance.

I was still on the jury rigged harness/stash bag - so I didn't let the hook take the full load.  Other than that the Maliko 4.0 performed great.

Kalani was riding to even further out (he can haul upwind tighter on the Triple Seven PT Hybrid than I can on the BRM Maliko).  His DW rides were longer than my rides.

The highlight of today was riding the swell outside to way inside - the longer ones had to have been a quarter mile.  No drag from an inflated wing.  No having to manage a wing that lost its wind (dead weight).  Just pure foil surfing!!!

One critique I have with the Cabrinha setup - the mast height is a touch short for unbridled attacks (I may have to get the 84cm... - gotta think about this one.  I'm not racing anymore, so I could sell the Evolution Cedrus masts to fund this...)

I just ordered a BRM S3 4.2m - this (and some other equipment procurements) are why I sold the F One foils, the Unifoil Progression 170, the Evolution Cedrus adapters I no longer used, and the two Triple Seven PT Hybrids.  After this round, the equipment selection should be stable for a bit - just outings to get miles on everything and enjoy it.

The wind is forecasted to be with us for quite some time.  With La coming home tonight, I may take a break for a couple of days to rest up (or maybe just do shorter sessions).

Parawing Session - 5/19/2026

Almost a repeat of yesterday.

Wind was good, but not as steady or strong as yesterday - and it was a bit swirly, especially on the back half of the course.

Nice high tide again.

And the waves had similar energy to yesterday.

Launch point -

Robby was on Foil Drive (testing out a tiny race stabilizer).

Norm had the same setup as yesterday.  And Kalani came out today - and tried the Code 985X (or whatever it was)

I bumped up the foil to the AFS Enduro 1100 - insurance with the slightly iffy winds.

And the landing -

The waves were really good up above Fenceline - got a few stashed parawing rides that reeled for quite some time.

I was pretty much holding my line while riding - then I looked for Norm and Robby and they were both almost at Campgrounds.  I started heading downwind at this point.

You can see at Campgrounds the wind was coming in from different directions.

The waves over here weren't as good for retracting the parawing, so I just had it in drift position.  I really love flying the BRM S3!

This is Hickam's wind chart - I think our run was a notch below this (pressure reduction from up there to PV is enough to make a difference).

Pretty much the same as yesterday on top speed.  I definitely pushed the Enduro 1100 -

Wind should be stronger tomorrow - I'll likely setup the Cab P905 and the Maliko 4.0

Parawing Session - 2/25/2026

Wind was up today - but not terribly strong.

Just barely whitecapping.

Pretty low tide and minimal waves.

I had the higher wind setup - Enduro 1100/HA40 and No.40, all connected by the Evolution Cedrus Surf 77.5cm mast.  Powered by the Flysurfer POW 5.0 

Kalani was out on big stuffs also - including the Triple 7 PT Skin 7.3

More north in the wind than I was expecting.

The small waves closer in shore provided some fun rides.

Setting up for one wave, I got a solid tack right on to the wave - I'm going to have to practice this a whole lot more so I can pull this transition more often.  I tried a repeat, but the wind softened up a bit.

During the lull (when I couldn't get the board moving), I was able to get a video of Kalani putting it all together - he said this was his best day parawinging!

And neither of us had to paddle back in so it was a good day!

It was probably 5mph more than the graph, but the relative magnitude to adjacent readings was correct.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I did have the Enduro 1100 on instead of the Enduro 1300 - and I did not have the instance pop ups that the 1300 provides.  Could have also been the gusty wind.

Parawing Session - 2/16/2026

Went to Hickam again - didn't want to mess with the crowds or the low tide at WPB.

Kalani came with to get more parawing training in.

The wind was really strong -

The was a first for me - parawinging on No.40 (although I think I have PW'd this board before...)

And even more firsts - I set up the Enduro 1100/HA40 (on this board... I'm pretty sure that was a first).

I opted to go with a single PW - and with the texture over the water, I packed the BRM Maliko 4.0

This session I wanted to focus on getting the feel for this board-foil combo, as I want to use this more over at WPB.

Needless to say, this combo goes -

You can see there were a few lulls where I basically drifted out to the furthest wind line.  But the rest of the session I was cooking (overpowered and on the verge of disaster)

I also wanted to practice my tacks.  Once I get these committed to muscle memory I want to incorporate them into my transitions onto waves over at WPB.  I was able to get them heel and toe side while using the Flysurfer POW 5.0 - but the smaller parawings travel much faster and that is causing trouble for me.

These gusts would transform the harbor from bumpy to swell building.  And just managing the parawing and not getting pulled off the board was the focal point -

Corroborating the graphs, the Maliko 4.0 needs 20mph to get me up on foil. 

I actually think this is one of those days that I could have brought 3 parawings and then I would have been covered (2.9, 4.0 and 4.8/5.1)

Although I did not ride out of the tack attempts I made, I at least got the board through the turns.

And I have a higher degree of confidence on the setup I brought out (which should give me more options on the daily WP runs).
