After work, I hit WP. The winds were nuking all day - up until I showed up at the beach.
I wanted to mix it up - so No.39 and the AFS Silk 850
And the Ezzy Flight 4.0
After today, I will only take No.39 out with a wing a size bigger than I think I should. I was on the struggle bus with the combo I had setup - and I'm blaming the wing. The winds seemed to shift around, which made powering up the wing a little tough.
Despite all the drama, I did get up on foil (and fall, and recover, and repeat) and I didn't have to paddle in (that automatically makes this a win).
The wind in addition to shifting, also had distinct lanes. When I wasn't in a lane, or if it wasn't blowing, I jibed to make sure I didn't drop off foil.
But there was a gust that allowed me to throw a tack.
Because of the difficulty I had getting powered, I was only able to get 10 miles in.
Hard to tell from this chart - but I did have a substantial drift (note the starting point)
And here's the reason for the drifting.... light wind... I could have been on the Mode Pro 5.0 and still been drifting
This was the first time I took a board other than No.40 out in quite some time. As I stated earlier, I will only take No.40 out with a bigger than I think I should wing. This board (No.39) has such a small balancing point - starting is pretty critical - and with a powerful wing (for a given wind speed) that should make launching easier.
The other comparison was using the AFS Silk 850 behind the Cabrinha H800. Here there is no comparison - the Silk 850 is so nice to use. It is smooth as silk -
I'm probably going to purge a bunch of gear from the garage - the Ezzy 4.0, the H800, maybe the Spitfire 900, the Reedin SW2s (3.6 and 4.2). I hear a North Mode Pro 4.2 calling my name...
