I painted the gray bottom yesterday evening. It came out well. When I got home from work, I taped off the gray and painted the black.
Then I drilled out the vent, installed it and put on a clear coat (and that's when things started going south. I had another one of those unsettled spots - had to clean it off with acetone. In this case it was either residual wax, or a lack of sanding that caused the weird lack of hardening.
Still came out pretty good!
